Barnsley Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme

The Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme aims to boost breastfeeding confidence, encouraging and promoting breastfeeding out and about in the community.

A range of businesses across Barnsley are signed up to the scheme, including restaurants, cafes, leisure centres and many more. These businesses have committed to offering families breastfeeding friendly spaces. 

Look out for the Breastfeeding Welcome sign in venues across Barnsley.

Breastfeeding Friendly Employer scheme

Barnsley Council Children's Public Health team have launched a Breastfeeding Friendly Employer Scheme that seeks to enhance breastfeeding support for staff returning to the workplace following maternity leave.   

The scheme offers a wealth of benefits for staff and organisation, including:  

  • Reduced staff turnover and retention of workers
  • Increased job satisfaction, morale and staff loyalty
  • Enhanced corporate image, through the demonstration of compassion and investment in staff health and well being. 

The scheme is aimed at organisations interested in supporting staff members to return to the workplace, whilst breastfeeding or expressing. ​
